Did you know that 42% of collisions are reported to be caused by failure to look properly or being distracted?
To raise awareness of this Brighton & Hove City Council’s Road Safety Team have launched a campaign to show residents how easily accidents can happen when distracted.
The What Did I Miss campaign aims to encourage Brighton residents to think about themselves – and the lives of others – and not their social media feeds, mobile phones and other devices, whilst walking, cycling and driving.
Campaigners have found that:
29% of people killed and seriously injured in Brighton and Hove were pedestrians
18-30 year olds account for 36% of pedestrians road traffic accidents
3 serious and 30 slight bus passenger casualties in the last 3 years were caused by pedestrians failing to look properly stepping in front of bus
The top 5 causes for accidents are; pedestrian failing to look, pedestrian in a hurry, driver failed to look, pedestrian impaired by alcohol and pedestrian crossing road without clear vision.
What Did I Miss will run until 18th April and the full campaign – along with video and competitions to win a month’s FREE bus travel on Brighton & Hove Buses and be in with a chance of winning tickets for the i360 – can be found via: www.whatdidimiss.co.uk.
