Bold, abstract paintings by Jules Allan at KMA Gallery

5 February – 17 March 2025

KMA Gallery owner Kellie Miller has hand-picked a series of four new paintings by Jules Allan, featured this month alongside a number of her other stunning and rich paintings concerned with the human experience.

Kellie’s expert eye first discovered Jules’ work in 2018 at her studio, and was instantly captivated by her distinctive use of texture and form. She says “they starkly remind us that art plays on the conscious and subconscious mind. Jules’ dual practices as an artist and art psychotherapist, without doubt, inform one another.”

Jules uses the canvas to its full effect to demonstrate the mind-body connection, spending months layering up paint in a rainbow of colours and then scraping away to reveal the history of that labour. The chemical reaction of mixing oil and acrylic paint are key to this process, illuminating the duality of chaos and structure that underpin human existence.

Also on show are the abstracted landscape paintings of David Hayward, emotive sculptures by Su Jameson and intriguing ceramics by Craig Underhill, among much more.

These artworks are on view curated across two floors at Kellie Miller Arts Gallery.
