This week (starting Monday 4th December) has been a busy, but successful one, for our Ambassadors and their mission to keep our streets and businesses safe.
On Wednesday (6th), they helped to secure the arrest of a man who is alleged to have committed an armed robbery – within just minutes of an attempted armed robbery at the Post Office on St James’s Street at 9:05am and an armed robbery at 9.40am at Dyke Road News.
At approximately 9:48am Sussex Police made contact with the BID Ambassadors, who viewed the CCTV image of the male, who had demanded money from staff at gunpoint in the two stores.
After being sighted by one of our Ambassadors shortly after, the team, via the Business Crime Reduction Partnership, contacted the police. By 10:20am, the male had been arrested by armed police.
He was in possession of an imitation firearm, a hammer and a lock knife, which are all now safely off the streets.
Then, later that day, they also recovered over £5000 of stolen stock from BID businesses.
After reviewing CCTV from a theft of nine watches from Chris Elli on Bond Street and identifying the alleged suspects, they spotted the male and female on North Street.
The Ambassadors were able to recover the £4800 worth of watches, plus the 11 Boots fragrances also found in their bag- totalling over £5300!
Not bad for a day’s work! Well done to the Ambassador team!
