Bao Buns and a Bob: itsu Gives Brits What They’ve Been Waiting for with 75,000 Gift Giveaway

itsu, the Asian-inspired, healthy fast-food brand, is to reopen its first stores from the 26th June with a 75,000 gift giveaway to the first visitors to each store including much needed free haircuts from John Frieda.

Whilst research into Brit’s post-lockdown dining desires have shown that sushi is the UK’s second most missed foodstuff, itsu has decided to give customers even more of what they’ve been missing by offering customers free haircuts to perfectly coincide with the reopening of UK hair salons.

It’s all because itsu’s doors are due to open on the same week as hair salons do across the UK – considered to be one of the biggest milestones since lockdown began. The giveaway is part of itsu’s reopening celebrations in which it will be giving out gifts to the first 1,000 customers at each of its UK stores and restaurants – for takeaway or delivery. The gifts include free sushi boxes and itsu pink cards offering customers 50% off for 3 months (the same period that itsu has been closed).

itsu founder, Julian Metcalfe says, “It was heart-breaking for us to close our doors, so the fact that we will reopen soon just makes me well up with gratitude, I wanted to celebrate this big moment by giving back to our beloved returning customers.”Julian adds “the itsu experience will feel different for some time to ensure team members and customers are safe”.

itsu will continue to execute its industry leading ‘hands and handles’ program where all surfaces and hands are cleaned with disinfectant every 20 mins, which is within the safe time for bacteria and viruses to acclimatise. It will also continue to complete its extremely fast service model promising to serve all customers under 90 seconds.

On top of this, itsu stores have introduced a number of new initiatives to ensure maximum safety for all customers; hand sanitisers will be freely available, face shields will be worn by all team members and the seating areas will be closed off to preserve social distancing. Customers will also be asked to pay for their food with card and contactless payment where possible.

Whilst itsu is opening for customers the first time since 23rd March during lock down, its Kings Road & Regents Place kitchens remained open in order to donate food to the NHS. Since the crisis hit itsu has donated over £80k worth of meals to NHS hospital staff nearby, without any fundraising support and purely enabled by volunteering itsu staff.

The first stores opening on 26 June will be: Brighton, Bristol, Kingston, Notting Hill, Kings Road and Bicester. Opening hours will be reduced with stores serving a streamlined menu.
