Brilliant Brighton businesses prepare to light up the city for Christmas!

Brilliant Brighton’s Christmas lights will be switched-on on Monday 16th November 2020.

Brilliant Brighton, an organisation of 517 businesses within the city’s Business Improvement District who collectively contribute the £75,000 required each year, to light up the city centre during the festive period are pleased to announce that their Christmas lights will be switched-on, on Monday 16th November 2020.

While the majority of the city centre’s shops, salons, cafes and restaurants’ doors are currently closed as part of the second lockdown, businesses hope that the Christmas lights (which are each fitted with eco-friendly bulbs) will brighten up those trips into the city centre for essentials, plus click and collect and takeaway orders, offered by many businesses at this time.

“We may be in a second lockdown, but there are still a lot of businesses who are open for takeaways, click and collect and more,” Gavin Stewart, CEO of Brilliant Brighton says. “For many independent businesses, especially, the next two months will be make or break for them. To support our wonderfully eclectic mix of traders, the Brighton city centre Christmas lighting displays will be lit from the 16th November. If you are out and about – safely – we hope that they bring you a little bit of festive cheer, and help to brighten these dark times, just a little.”

The switch will be flicked on just before dark with canopies of twinkly lights in The Lanes and North Laine and the much-loved Christmassy words (including Fairy, Twinkle and Love) once again lighting up North Street and Western Road.

The lights, which will illuminate East Street, Brighton Place, Market Street, Meeting House Lane, Bond Street, Gardner Street, Kensington Gardens, North Street, Western Road and Preston Street, will be sparkling up the city until early January – so hopefully can be enjoyed by many, during lockdown walks and post-lockdown festivities (from 2nd December).
