Shrove Tuesday (or Pancake Day as most of us know it) is one of those days renowned for feasting. And what better way to celebrate than by tucking into a sweet – or savoury- treat, like a delicious crepe or pancake?
In Brighton, we’re lucky enough to have a store selling our favourite comfort food, not just on Shrove Tuesday, but all year round. We spoke to Crêpeaffaire Brighton’s manager, Carsten, to chat tempting toppings and flipping awesome crepes:
Hi Carsten, when did Crêpeaffaire Brighton open?
The Brighton restaurant opened in December 2016, but the company itself started a decade ago.
Is there a difference between a pancake and a crepe?
Pancakes are thick and fluffy, while crepes are larger, thinner and crispy means we can add a variety of delicious ingredients inside of them.
Yum! What’s your bestselling crepe?
I’ll Have What She’s Having – a magical mix of strawberries, Nutella and cream; who can say no to something so delicious?!
Exactly! What’s your personal fave filling?
It would have to be our Eggs Royale crepe from our breakfast menu (served all day) – egg, cheese, hollandaise sauce and smoked salmon.
That sounds like a great way to start the day! Why do you think your crepes are so popular?
Simply because they taste great! I also think the vast range of sweet, savoury and breakfast crepes and the choice of serving them in either our wheat flour crepe or galette (gluten free) bases means that everyone can enjoy great tasting food.
We can’t let you go without mentioning Pancake Day on Tuesday (13th Feb) – are you doing anything special?
We will be open from 9am-6pm, serving breakfast, savoury and sweet crepes all day.
Our Deliveroo service will also no doubt be busy – allowing our customers to enjoy our crepes from the comfort of their home or work!
