Since 1933, C & H Fabrics has been a pillar of the fabric and haberdashery retail industry in the South East of England. C & H continues to lead the competition by offering a wide range of good value, quality products, allied with experienced and knowledgeable staff providing the highest levels of customer service.
The company has grown far beyond its fabric origins, with eight stores retailing material and haberdashery products alongside a multitude of items such as children’s toys, women’s fashion accessories, home fragrance and homeware.
The in-home curtain design service was launched in the 1980s, offering a free measuring and fitting service with over 100 curtain makers. Made-to-measure curtains, blinds and shutters remain a central and unique part of the business to this day.
Founded by Harold Closs & Cyril Hamblin, throughout its 84 years C & H remains within the Hamblin family, now in their fourth generation. To honour its founders and the company’s heritage C&H have rebranded for a modern retail market but remain committed to its roots, expanding the well-known C & H acronym to Closs & Hamblin, with the tag line ‘Home & Haberdashery since 1933’.
Alongside the new name Closs & Hamblin are in the process of renovating eight of its stores to complement the new brand colourways and styling, much to the delight of their longstanding customers. Eagle-eyed Brighton shoppers will already have seen the Western Road store’s transformation.
Rejuvenated and re-invigorated, Closs & Hamblin aims to remain at the forefront of UK fabric and haberdashery retail for another eight decades and beyond.
