Simon Webster Hair were thrilled to announce earlier in the year that they had won a music makeover for their salon, courtesy of PRS for Music, in recognition of their close work with local musicians and artists as well as established acts. The salon has been responsible for the styling of music videos, festivals and live performances and well as organising live events that incorporate music, fashion, dance and the visual arts.
The prize was £5000 to spend on an integrated music system that would improve their clients’ experience of the music they play in-salon. The salon has always set itself apart in the selection of music they play, avoiding the usual chart fodder and thumping bassline in favour of showcasing more alternative or local acts, revisiting cult classic albums and dropping in eclectic tracks from cross the globe.
It’s one of the small details that has made this independent salon a firm favourite with clients from both near and far, as well as their impeccable hair-skills. For months they’ve been working with Radio 6’s Steve Levine and PRS to design a music system with improved sound quality and that encourages client engagement with the music they’re listening to. Now, each of the salon floors has it’s own independent music network, accessed via an i-pad and enabling clients to select the music and set the tone for their visit.
A new vinyl deck allows for favourite 45s and LPs to be played through the system, complete with atmospheric crackle, and the salon plan to incorporate special days into their already brimming schedules where clients can bring along their old favourites to play in-salon whilst being pampered. The unveiling of the salon’s new system takes place next week, so why not book into the salon for a little hair heaven and to add your track request to the playlist?
