Meet the Ambassador: Team Leader, Harry Ratcliff

The Brilliant Brighton Ambassadors are on-hand to help, 364 days a year, and assist with everything from crime assistance to first aid and signposting visitors to the stores, restaurants and cafes they’re looking for. They’re a hard-working, friendly team who help make our city a safe and wonderful place to be.

To find out more about all the Ambassadors do, we’re shining the spotlight on a member of our Ambassador team each month. First up is our Team Leader, Harry Ratcliff:

Hi Harry! How long have you been an Ambassador?

Six years.

What does a ‘normal’ day look like for you?

Every day is different when patrolling a vibrant city centre like Brighton’s and there is always something new to see and new experiences to learn from. My days are always varied. I can go from assisting a visitor to the city to find the businesses they are looking for, all the way to collating intelligence on someone who is currently wanted by the police.

What’s been the biggest highlight of being an Ambassador?

By working with Sussex Police and the Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) we have been able to get many positive outcomes on serious crime such as a six year custodial sentence for an offence – helping to keep Brighton city centre safer for everyone.

What do you enjoy, most about what you do?

The jobs that I personally find most rewarding are often based around first aid. They are likely to be challenging and they present a good opportunity to learn and develop your skills. For that reason they are one of the more satisfying jobs to attend, when they go well.
