The FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards recognised Ryan Jackson of Brighton-based OG Kicks as a hard-working, resilient and forward-thinking entrepreneur.
Ryan Jackson, 22, started OG Kicks as a sole trader from his bedroom in 2017, selling reloved trainers online. In March 2020, just three weeks before the first lockdown, he opened his first retail store in Brighton’s North Laine. Since then, against the odds, OG Kicks has established itself as a leading destination store where customers can buy, sell and trade premium trainers and streetwear, putting Brighton’s sneaker scene in the spotlight across London and the south.
His success was recognised at the awards event held on 25th March at Hickstead Showground, where Jackson faced stiff competition. Tim Aker, FSB Development Manager, said, “It was a very competitive category with over 300 entries, so it is a very good achievement.”
Jackson commented, “This award is testament to the hard work and vision of not just me, but also my small, dedicated team who are equally passionate about the business. We are constantly pushing, growing and developing. We don’t just sell products, we also sell an experience. And our aim is to make that experience as exceptional as possible.”
Jackson now goes forward to the UK Finals, to be held on 19th May 2022 in Glasgow.
