Third Thursdays: Art, Music & More in Brighton City Centre This Thursday Evening

A new exciting monthly programme launches in Brighton city centre this Thursday (16th December), bringing together local artists, musicians and businesses for residents and visitors to enjoy!

Third Thursdays are a monthly opportunity to see, experience and take part in art, music and culture, which aims to make Brighton city centre the place to be, with events, performances, film projections and new artwork commissions, during the dark evenings.

The launch event on Thursday 16th December will see musicians performing, films by international artists showing in businesses’ windows (thanks to the ‘whispering window’ technology of event sponsor Feonic) and a film trail, all taking place throughout North Laine and The Lanes between 5-7pm.

A partnership project between Brilliant Brighton (the city centre’s Business Improvement District, formed of 517 retail, leisure and hospitality businesses) and the ABCD Cultural Recovery Plan (a collaborative plan created by over 100 creatives in the city, which has secured £350,000 of funding for the cultural sector in the city from organisations including Brighton & Hove City Council, Arts Council England and the Pebble Trust) and delivered by videoclub, Third Thursdays aims to bring together local artists and businesses to showcase our vibrant and creative city centre.

Jamie Wyld of videoclub who are curating the Third Thursdays events says: “videoclub is excited about curating and producing Third Thursdays, in which we’ve curated a programme of musicians from across Brighton and Hove, and artists and filmmakers from across the globe. We hope there are moments of laughter, enjoyment and reflection as people take part in a film trail through the North Laine and The Lanes, hear live music in the streets and see films in shop windows by international artists.”

Shelley Welti, Marketing and Events Manager from Brilliant Brighton says: “We’re really looking forward to videoclub bringing Third Thursdays to life, with lots of exciting plans taking place in Brilliant Brighton – not only for the first event in December, but monthly until April, so we hope people will come out and enjoy our vibrant city centre.”

David Sheppeard, Executive Director of Marlborough Productions, and Co-Chair of the ABCD Cultural Recovery Plan’s ENLIVEN strand adds: “Brighton’s cultural sector is at its best when it’s bold and collaborative, these values have driven the ABCD plan for cultural recovery. Third Thursdays are born from these values representing a new platform for the city’s artists, organisations, businesses and audiences to come together to make unforgettable experiences happen. We’re hugely grateful to Brilliant Brighton for going on this journey with us and for videoclub’s dynamic creative vision. We hope to see you all there.”

Brighton’s first Third Thursday events starts on Thursday 16th December and runs every Third Thursday of the month until April. Third Thursdays are a partnership project by Brilliant Brighton and the ABCD Cultural Recovery Fund, delivered by videoclub and sponsored by Feonic.
