Simon says…
“It’s a fairly certain if you’re reading this that your life or that of a loved one has, in some way, been touched by cancer. Mine has. In my work, my friendships, my family. We know the statistics, but we also know that we’re making huge advances in treatment, prevention and aftercare.
And it’s thanks to charities like Bloodwise. So to try to do my bit in the fight against cancer, I am cycling the nearly 300-mile London to Paris ride in September alongside a dozen friends and colleagues from the hairdressing industry to raise as much money as we can. Your support would mean the world.”
Simon is the Artistic Director of Brighton’s Simon Webster Hair and he took-up cycling initially to improve his fitness, but discovered a new passion. Since he started cycling in 2016, he’s taken part in a few local cycling sportives, but this will be his biggest challenge by far. The decision to ride in this charity event came about after Simon witnessed cancer change the lives of people very close to him. And a chance conversation with a fellow hairdresser who had cycled the route the year before, led to him enrolling to complete it in 2019 himself.
“Eight in ten people will get cancer at some point in their lives. And that means that even if we’re lucky enough to be one of the two in ten, we can’t escape it entirely because it will affect those we love. With so much progress being made, it’s imperative that Bloodwise continue to receive the funding to carry out their amazing research. This is one way I can do my bit to help. ”
