The very generous Mandhir from Sorriso, an independent womenswear store on North Street has kindly donated a £200 gift voucher to be won by one lucky winner at the Christmas lights switch-on raffle – with all proceeds donated to Chestnut Tree House, children’s hospice.
On the evening, they will also be offering shoppers a free gift too – when spending £50 instore.
We spoke to Mandhir to find out more about the store, Sorriso’s party perfect outfits and getting involved with this year’s event:
Hi Mandhir, why did you decide to open Sorriso, Italian Designs?
There are a few reasons why I needed to open Sorriso. The first is my passion for fashion. As cheesy as this may sound, I love being able to bring new designs to people and to be able to dress them and make them feel amazing. I love the feeling when I’ve helped a customer with clothes that they love and are comfortable with but at the same time are on trend.
The second reason, and this is the main reason why I opened Sorriso, there was a gap in the market for women of different shapes and sizes. When my friends and I would go shopping we were never satisfied with what was on offer. No matter what your shape, you want to feel sexy, elegant, and trendy but at the same time be comfortable. That’s why Sorriso was born. We provide Italian Designs in beautiful fabrics and styles and as we are an independent store, you have access to unique designs not available in high street stores.
How would you describe the store’s style?
I would describe the stores style as an independent store with everyday and luxury clothes. Opulent fabrics, such as silks, linens and cottons dependent on the season, are brought together with beautiful designs to complete the collections we provide. The clothes are trendy, luxurious and comfortable at the same time. Many outfits can be dressed up for evening wear with the variety of accessories which we provide in the store.
We also have one off statement pieces – which can last many trends and seasons and never go out of fashion. These types of unique items are difficult to come by so it’s always worth popping in to see what we have each week. As an independent shop, we try to bring in various exclusive styles, which are only available for that week, allowing us to give more choice to the customer.
At present when you come to the shop we’ll give you all the assistance that you require but we are also planning to introduce a personal shopping/stylist experience which will be available upon appointment only.
Which styles are your best sellers?
There are many best sellers and this varies from season to season. At present we have a collection of faux fur coats, jackets, and ponchos which are selling very well. As well as accessories such as hats, gloves, scarves, jewellery, and bags. Overall, through the year our silk tops are the customers favourite.
Do you have any party-perfect pieces in store?
We have party-perfect styles all year round! This Christmas is all about sparkle and sequins. We have variety of dresses and tops coupled with skirts and trousers. Lots of silk and sparkle with handbags and jewellery to finish the outfit.
What made you want to get involved with this year’s Christmas lights switch-on?
We’ve been here in Brighton for nearly a year and we love the community in Brighton and we wanted to be a part of it. The Chestnut Tree House, children’s hospice is such a good cause and we wanted to be a part of giving something back to the community. It’s also such a fun time of year and we wanted to be part of that fun.

And finally, what do you love most about Brighton at Christmas?
I love everything about Brighton all year round, but at Christmas its extra special. There is lots to do, special events, people shopping for friends and family and the lights. I love a bit of sparkle.
