9 January – 3 February 2025
Update your space for the new year with art from KMA Gallery, especially selected for you. View an array of inviting works on display this month, including paintings by Kate Richardson, David Hayward and Ashley Hanson, ceramics by Phil Jolley, the late Adela Powell and Stephen Murfitt, as well as a new sculpture by Jon Barrett-Danes.
A well-known and highly respected artist, David Hayward is particularly interested in surface texture in his works, leading him to use encaustic as his medium – oil paint mixed with wax. Etching and carving out of the surface, David creates stunning ruminations on the continually changing landscape.
Jon Barrett-Danes is a sixth generation ceramicist, using that long lineage to bring the individual character of animals to life. His sculptures are highly collected across the world, with a particular interest in his ability to capture the unique nature of sheep. On display at the gallery this month is the most recent of these, Martha the Sheep. Projecting a quietly fierce demeanour, Martha would be equally at home in your garden or your kitchen – she can be displayed inside or out.
Also on show are paintings by Dawn Stacey, prints and an original painting by Kellie Miller, sculptures by Davide Galbiati and Jessie Mooy, and ceramics by Paul Wearing.
These artworks are on view curated across two floors at Kellie Miller Arts, 20 Market Street, Brighton.
