Brilliant Brighton – a not for profit organisation formed of 500+ city centre businesses who come together to put on projects to make the city centre a fantastic place to work, live and visit – are looking for a local artist to help us create this year’s banner design, as part of our ‘dressing the city’ campaign!
In previous years we’ve worked with fantastic local artists including Bella Gomez, Dave Pop!, Kate Forrester, Rosie Apps and Ilona Drew.
The project will go live in time for the beginning of the Brighton Festival in May. The selected designs will be in place in time for the annual Children’s Parade and will stay in situ until August 2026. The artwork will become the city’s summer ‘brand’ and give the commissioned artist exposure to a local, national and international audience.
The theme: We Love Brighton
This year’s theme is ‘We Love Brighton’ – inspired by and reflectling Brighton & Hove’s vibrant, diverse, and family-friendly character, with a focus on colour, energy and all the things to celebrate about our seaside city!
The city centre has 14 cross street banner points which cross Western Road, North Street and Market Street. We would like to see as much colour and flare as possible to give Brighton’s 11m visitors a real welcome to our vibrant, colourful city. The design brief is purposefully loose to allow as much freedom as possible – however, we would expect the concepts to be Brighton & Hove focused, with a design showcasing everything to love about our city.
Commission: £1,000
