In 2005, comedian James Campbell resolved to open a comedy club for ages 6+, wanting the fizzy joy of stand-up – both watching it and performing it – to be something that wasn’t closed off to kids. Comedy Club 4 Kids have spent the subsequent two decades bringing the best performers from the international comedy circuit to entertain an audience aged 6+. No swears; no patronising; very little of obvious education value. Just top quality jokes, stories, songs; much giggling for everyone.
In recognition of everything they do, and it being their twentieth year of existence, in August 2025 they won The Victoria Wood Award, the Edinburgh Comedy Awards’ panel prize, for embodying the true ‘spirit of the Fringe.’ In one swift move, found themselves the recipients of a magnificent trophy and a £5,000 prize pot, but also validation for the work they do.
The company ethos is for an all-ages audience of friends and family to enjoy the same show together, and get to experience the fun and exhilaration of a real comedy club in a safe, pleasant environment. Where the worst thing they’ll hear could be an outright lie about being a 76yo dinosaur, or a dastardly prank involving filling a shower-head with sticky boiled sweets.
The club book an energising mix of stand-ups, character comedians, sketch acts, musical comics, cabaret performers, improvisers and even circus tricksters to do their swear-free best for a family crowd. Reckoning that, just because you’re a kid, or hanging out with one, doesn’t mean you should miss out on the funniest performers currently available.
For the October 18th show at Komedia, the line-up boasts musical comic Katie Pritchard (MC), funny poet Joshua Seigal, and excellent sketch duo Shelf. For December 6th, they’ll be bringing stand-up Sunjai Arif (MC), character comedian Lil Wenker as rootin-tootin’ cowboy Bangtail, and the multi-media comic Howard Read. All of whom have appeared on CC4K’s excellently stupid Radio Nonsense podcast, the ideal appetite-whettener before returning to Komedia.
