Ceramics in the Spring at KMA Gallery

Exhibition dates: 3rd – 29th April 2024

In expectation of the warmer season to come, this April KMA Gallery is exhibiting new ceramic collections by British artists Craig Underhill and Mary Jones alongside an engaging mix of paintings, prints, sculptures and other ceramics by a rich roster of artists.

Craig Underhill’s experimental approach to ceramics demonstrates his diverse approach to mark making. His layered technique is akin to painting on a canvas, creating 3D paintings in the form of a vessel. This unique approach allows him to develop abstract landscapes that still mimic the rise and fall of the topography.

The bright, sculptural heads of Mary Jones (also known as The Brick Thief) act as physical manifestations of passing interactions with strangers. These moments often fail to create an indelible impression on our minds, so Jones’ choice to give permanence to these people serves as a celebration of this under-represented human experience.

Also on view is a bold new cityscape painting by Jonathan Smith, joyous prints by Kellie Miller of often-overlooked natural details, the characterful animal sculptures of Jon Barrett-Danes, and the countryside landscape vessels of Isabel Merrick, among many others.

These artworks are on view curated across two floors at Kellie Miller Arts.
