A celebration in honour of Festival month at KMA Gallery

1-24 May 2024

To celebrate the explosion of Festival month in Brighton, KMA Gallery is exhibiting two new painting collections this month by artists Carl Chapple and Dawn Stacey, alongside an engaging mix of prints, sculptures and other ceramics by our rich roster of artists.

New to the gallery, Carl Chapple takes inspiration from classical and Renaissance painting and sculpture in his own rich gestural paintings of dancers. As the artist in residence at Ballet Cymru in Wales, Carl centres his works around collaborations with dancers and performers, combining elements of both figure painting and portraiture, exploring mood, narrative, and other themes.

One of the galleries most popular artists, Dawn Stacey’s lush illustrative paintings evolve from walks in gardens, her allotment, woodlands and lakes. Her layering techniques hark back to her textile background, whereas the influence of her illustration course tells of the journeying narrative in her paintings. So highly detailed are her paintings there will always be something new to discover within the depictions of cherry blossoms, lily pads and other stunning flora.

Also on view are the characterful head sculptures of Mary Jones, joyous prints by Kellie Miller of often-overlooked natural details, countryside landscape vessels of Isabel Merrick, and geometric landscape paintings by Adam Bracey, among many others.

These artworks are on view curated across two floors at Kellie Miller Arts, 20 Market Street.
